Krise Valley – Crowfield

This past Tuesday was a chance to check out Krise Valley and Crowfield roads.  Both of these turned out to be real gems, unfortunately the only way to lace these into a ride route is by way of a short stretch of hellish Rt. 322, where it narrows down and 18-wheelers fly by at 55mph, just inches from a non existant berm.  We opted to walk the bikes on the outside edge of the guardrail.  It sucked but it was the only sane option.

Right before risking CERTAIN DEATH.

Wasn’t the easiest way to walk, but better than CERTAIN DEATH.

Onto Crowfield. PSU uses this road to test different types of gravel road surfacing materials and methods. The road surface changes about every quarter mile, it seems.

Riding down Boal Gap. Really nice back in there. Thought we were in Oregon all of a sudden.

Getting back before the sun went down.

  1. There is a trail connecting Krise and Crowfield that runs parallel to 322, just before the bridge next to 322 on your right. It’s a rough RR cut, not really rideable by anything but mountain bikes and horses, but just so ya know it’s there. It isn’t on the current Purple Lizard map.
